Honors/Service Distinctions: Joined from recruiting depot 21 November  1863. Reported by Samuel P. Bates in his History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-5 to have deserted from the U.S. Army Hospital at Frederick, Maryland sometime in 1864; however, historian Lewis Schmidt located records more than a century later which confirmed that George Frederick was paid $60 for his prior service with the 47th Pennsylvania’s Regimental Band 2; that pay was “effective through” 31 August 1864
